ProductStone Dining Tables in Sydney

Aysons has imported natural stone and fabricated it into custom pieces since 1993, and dining tables are part of that work. Choose your stone in our Seven Hills showroom, tell us how you plan to use the table, and we will help you settle on the stone, size and design.

About these tables

A dining table is the surface a household uses most, so the material matters. Natural stone gives a table something no manufactured finish can copy: veining, colour and texture that are different in every slab. Aysons imports natural stone and has fabricated it for kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, staircases and furniture since 1993. Our furniture work includes dining tables in stone such as marble and travertine, cut and finished by our own stonemasons.

This page explains the stones we work with, what can be tailored, and what to think about before you choose, so you can arrive at the showroom with a clear idea of what you want.

Why choose a stone dining table

  • Every table is different. Stone is a natural material. Veining, colour shifts and fine texture vary from slab to slab, so the table you choose will not be repeated elsewhere.
  • Character you can see and feel. From soft, warm travertine to strongly veined marble, the surface becomes a feature of the room rather than a backdrop.
  • A hard-wearing surface, with care. Stone is a solid material that suits daily use, but stones differ. Granite is generally harder than marble, and marble and travertine can etch or stain if spills are left.
  • Works with other materials. Stone tops sit well on timber, metal or stone bases, and suit both traditional and contemporary dining rooms.
  • Made for your space. Because we fabricate stone, the size and shape can be discussed to suit your room.

Stone options

We can show you a wide range of natural stone in our showroom. These are the stones most often considered for a dining table.

Marble

Ranges from crisp whites to bold, patterned stones. Our range includes Imperial White, Tiger Skin and Calacatta Statuario, and we also carry hard-to-source Breccia marble. Marble is softer than granite and can be marked by acidic spills such as citrus, vinegar or wine, so it needs sealing and everyday care. Many people choose a honed (matt) finish because etching tends to be less noticeable than on a polished surface; we can show you both.

Travertine

Warm, natural tones such as ivory and noce, with a distinctive texture. Travertine suits relaxed, warm interiors and pairs well with timber. It is porous, so it should be sealed and looked after, and a brushed or honed surface is common. Our furniture gallery includes ivory travertine tables.

Granite

Dark, dense stones such as Jet Black, Cosmic Black and Fantasy Black, used in honed and leather finishes on our kitchen work. Granite is generally harder than marble and less prone to etching, which is why it is often considered for a busy family table. Hot pots still belong on a trivet.

Other natural stone. We also import limestone, onyx and basalt, and stock quartzite and dolomite. Whether one suits a dining table depends on the design and how the table will be used, so ask us in the showroom.

Custom dining table options

Choosing the right table

Start with the room

As a general guide, allow about 60 cm of table edge for each person and around 90 cm between the table and the nearest wall or furniture so chairs can be pulled out comfortably. If in doubt, mark the outline on the floor with tape.

Think about how it will be used

A table for family meals and homework calls for a different stone from one used mainly for hosting. Tell us who will use it and we can point you to suitable stones and finishes.

Look at the stone in your light

Veining and colour change between showroom lighting and daylight. Compare your shortlisted stones against your floor, walls and joinery.

Plan for weight

Stone is heavy. Consider access to the room, stairs, floors and the base that will carry the top. Weight and access are worth raising early.

Look after it

Wipe spills promptly, use coasters and trivets, and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners on marble and travertine. We stock stone care products, and can advise on sealing.
